Mil-STD-810G is a Department of Defense test specification. Mil-STD-810G is comprised of many different test specifications and is over 800 pages in length. Auto Technology Test lab offers accredited testing for Mil-STD-810G sec. 507.9. This is a 5% salt fog test similar to ASTM B117, but may also include drying steps along with the fogging cycles. The standard test duration is 48 hours. The fogging cycle and the dry cycle are alternated every 24 hours. The specification does allow of the test to be conducted for 48 hours fogging and 48 hours of dry as well. Fog collection devices are used to insure an even fall out of the fogged solution. Unlike ASTM B117 which requires 1-2 ml/hr. to be collected Mil-STD-810G requires 1-3 ml/hr. be collected.
